I was primarily looking for a slim spatula to use with my Vitamix. I really wanted to get to the bottom of which spatula is the best... the Vitamix Spatula, Set of 3, the OXO Good Grips Jar Spatula, White or this ISI Basics Slim Spatula. I've read all the reviews for each and a lot of people seemed to like the Vitamix spatula. So I bought all three.
Up front, the Vitamix spatula was absolutely the least quality and worse performing spatula of the bunch. It's hard plastic, not pliable and did a terrible job at conforming to the sides of the Vitamix when scraping material out of it. Plus, the hard plastic is easily nicked by the Vitamix blades. So I regretted buying the Vitamix spatulas.
This ISI Basics spatula is great. It's 10 3/4" long in total length which is long enough to reach to the bottom of the Vitamix. It has a spring steel core covered with silicone. That means it is BPA free, dishwasher safe and stiff. It does not easily bend as you are trying to scrape something out of the Vitamix, yet the edges of the spatula do give a little bit. The soft silicone edges of the spatula excel at scraping material off the inside of the Vitamix. And the edges of the spatula are thin which makes this useful for other things than just using in the Vitamix. The spatula actually has edges of different lengths. One side is 3 7/8" long while the other side is shorter, at 2 7/8".
Whereas the Vitamix is easily nicked by the blades of the Vitamix, I believe the softer silicone is more resilient. You still have to be careful around the blades, but compared to the Vitamix which is so easily nicked, this is not as easily nicked.
Of course, this spatula is also great for scraping every last little bit of peanut butter out of a jar, or mayonnaise, etc. It's also thin enough to use in around the edges of a baking pan. And because it is silicone, it can withstand temperatures up to 600 degrees.
This is great for using with the Vitamix. The OXO Jar Spatula is also good. I'd say it's a toss-up. I bought both and use them both. You can't go wrong with either one.
