This is the only cornstarch I use. It's imported from France where GMO corn has long been banned. Even after an EU court attempted to rule the ban illegal France has remained steadfastly against the cultivation of GM corn (called maize there).
Unfortunately, it's estimated that 90% of US and Canadian corn crops are GM contaminated (with some estimates as high as 100%) and this includes organic. I'm grateful to be able to find this product on Amazon since none of my local natural stores seem to carry it anymore. I could request it I suppose, but I don't use much of this, mostly for my DIY deodorant.
Here's the recipe if you're interested - it's actually quite effective and doubles nicely as toothpaste.
Note that frankincense is preferable over lavender (which is also slightly antimicrobial) because lavender contains estrogen mimickers which are hormone disruptors. Occasional lavender is okay (unless you have a hormonal cancer) but we're being bombarded with this essential oil in everything from soap to shampoo to conditioner, often on a daily basis. Peppermint oil is also an estrogen mimicker.
Why should you buy THIS cornstarch, and not whatever lines the shelves of your nearest grocer?
As most of you hopefully know, corn is a GMO ingredient, and one only needs to google "GMO rat study" to understand that genetically modified crops are toxic (and if that doesn't convince you thanks to the propaganda and sell-outs, research what the opposition has to say about Monsanto, the evil corporate giant who brought us Agent Orange then, and GMO's now, and for the love of God, stop feeding them to yourself and your loved ones).
"Organic" generally means non-GMO, provided it is 100% organic. This cornstarch is not labelled as 100% organic, but it does state that it is non-GMO, and Rapunzel is an excellent and reliably health-conscious, ethical company. This is cornstarch as your Grandma knew it, not that fancy stuff that's been modified to produce its own pesticides on a genetic level.
I actually use this as an all-natural face powder, as well as an all-purpose thickener in cooking. That other stuff isn't even allowed in my house.
Product arrived as expected. The box could be a better package if it had a pourable spout instead of those rip across the top of box pull cut outs- so had to immediately pour the contents into a mason jar to keep it nice and sealed for further use. Otherwise it is a very good quality corn starch.
If you are looking for a soft smooth, non-gmo product this is it. I really love the texture and softness it provides me. Since I have reactions to most common talc products, I use this combined with another natural product for talcum powder. I have sensitivities to added ingredients found in common products, so I have switched over to a more natural format. I have been using this for approximately 4 months. This also work wonders in the kitchen can't wait to use it for sauces, etc. I highly recommend this organic corn starch.
I'm so happy to have this product! Since I became gluten free, it has been hard to make sauces and thicken ingredients as I previously did with flour. I hadn't kept cornstarch in my kitchen for years, because of the fact that it was made from GMO corn. I'm happy to have a non-GMO product that allows me to make those special dishes I enjoyed when I still ate wheat. I use the cornstarch in moderation, as corn still isn't great for you, but for special occasions, I think it's okay to use.
I like that this is organic, because corn is one of the most genetically modified products out there. I use it to coat tofu to fry it so it makes it nice and crispy. It's more expensive and I'll keep looking for a local source for it. It is just like regular corn starch to use so you won't notice anything strange about it. Box is about the same size as a standard box of corn starch. There was a snafu with the shipping though. I ordered two boxes, and they shipped the two boxes in two SEPARATE larger boxes, and charged my credit card for four boxes. I got it worked out, but it was a bit of a hassle. Honest mistake I'm sure, but yucky.
Excellent product! I make alot of stews from cans of soup (not genetically engineered). Easy suppers - cook frozen vegetables (I mix a variety together) - heat the soup to boiling add about two tablespoons Rapunzel Organic Corn Starch that has been mixed with a little cold water to dissolve - then add drained vegetables to your thickened soup and you have the perfect (warm) meal. The Best Corn Starch - Thank you!
I'M NOT SURE HOW THEY CAN LABEL THIS ORGANIC IF THE CORN THEY USED TO MAKE THIS ISN'T ORGANIC. At least it's non GMO corn, but still not same as organic as comes in contact with all sorts of peptides. Would be okay if price was lower and if I didn't care about only eating organic.
Great organic corn starch. Can be used both for cooking and as a drying agent for your newborns bottom during diaper changes. Only Reason Not 5 stars is because the portion is very small for the price but I guess that is to be expected these days for organic products unfortunately.
